The questions we are asked most often: how the archive works, who can access it, and how garments are rented.
What is a fashion research archive?
It is a collection of garments kept to be studied, not sold. People who work here are not looking for a product to buy: they are looking at proportions, construction, materials and details, to be examined in person and turned into a design direction.
The difference from a vintage shop is the purpose. In a shop the garment leaves because someone wears it; in an archive the garment stays, and what leaves is the work built around it.
Where is La Cameretta?
At Viale Monza 87 in Milan — buzzer 083, ground floor. There is no sign on the street: it is a working space rather than a shop, and it is visited by appointment only.
How do I book a visit?
Through the booking page, or by writing to info@lacameretta.eu describing the project or the research under way. Each visit is confirmed individually.
How far in advance should a visit be booked?
The booking system takes requests up to the day before. For something urgent it is still worth writing directly: availability is checked case by case, and sometimes there is room.
Who can access the archive?
Designers, stylists, costume designers, art directors and creative teams working on a project. Access is built around professional work: that is why it goes through an appointment rather than a shop window.
Are students and schools welcome?
Yes, students are welcome. Schools and groups should write ahead: a class visit is organised, not improvised.
What kind of garments are in the archive?
The archive specialises in menswear and outerwear, with particular attention to construction details: how a pocket is made, how a collar closes, how a sleeve is set.
It is a specialisation rather than a convenient limit: on this ground the selection is deep instead of generic.
Is there an online catalogue?
No, and it is a deliberate choice. The selection comes out of conversation and the actual project: that is how the garments proposed relate to the work you are developing, rather than being whichever ones appear first in a grid.
Can garments be rented?
Yes. Garments selected during the visit can be rented by industry professionals, for shoots, productions, research and collection development.
How long can a garment be rented for?
Rentals run for seven days, one month or three months, depending on the work. Terms are set out in writing before collection.
Is a security deposit required?
Yes. Every rental carries a security deposit, returned when the garments come back. The amount is stated in the quotation together with the selection.
Do you ship outside Milan or abroad?
Yes, shipping abroad is possible. Terms and shipping costs are agreed together with the rental.
Do you work with productions outside Italy?
Yes. The archive works with productions and creative teams outside Italy as well.
Can I visit for research only, without renting?
Yes. A visit can be about looking, measuring, photographing details and understanding a direction, with no rental following it.
